What cake should I get for my husband’s birthday?

If your husband loves the ocean, the Surf’s Up Cake makes a unique and personal choice. Its surfboards, waves, and beach design create a cake that stands out from traditional birthday options while still offering classic flavours like chocolate or vanilla.

What cake is best served in summer?

A surf cake is ideal for summer thanks to its refreshing beach theme and light vanilla buttercream. The Surf’s Up Cake pairs perfectly with outdoor celebrations, coastal picnics, and surf-club events, adding to the seasonal atmosphere.

Can I bake a surf cake myself?

Yes, here’s how to try a DIY version:

  1. Bake 2–3 cake layers.

  2. Stack and cover with vanilla buttercream.

  3. Tint extra buttercream blue and smooth over the cake.

  4. Pipe white waves using contrasting buttercream.

  5. Shape surfboards, shells, and a sun from fondant.

  6. Add biscuit crumbs at the base for sand.

This can be time-consuming. Ordering the Surf’s Up Cake from The Cupcake Factory guarantees a professional finish and saves you the effort, allowing you to enjoy the party with your guests.

How do I plan a beach-themed celebration?

To create the perfect beach or surf party, include the following elements:

  1. Decorations – Use seashells, starfish, surfboards, and tropical flowers to set the scene. Add beach balls, parasols, and striped towels for fun details.

  2. Table Styling – Cover tables with blue or sandy-coloured cloths, scatter faux shells, and use mini buckets or jars filled with sand as centrepieces.

  3. Food & Drinks – Serve fresh fruit platters, seafood bites, and tropical punch. Add treats like surfboard biscuits or coconut desserts for theme consistency.

  4. Activities – Plan games like a sandcastle competition, limbo, or beach volleyball. For kids, include a “treasure hunt” with shells or toy surfboards.

  5. Dress Code – Encourage guests to wear summer attire—Hawaiian shirts, beach hats, or swimsuits if the event is by the water.

  6. Music – Create a playlist with surf rock, tropical beats, or relaxed summer vibes.

  7. The Cake – Feature the Surf’s Up Cake as the centrepiece. Its blue waves, surfboards, and edible shells bring the entire theme together.

What does a Surf’s Up Cake look like?

The Surf’s Up Cake is covered in ocean-blue buttercream with white wave details. It is decorated with edible surfboards, sugar shells, a fondant sun, and biscuit crumb “sand” along the base. Together, these elements create the look of rolling waves on a sunny beach.

How many people does a surfing cake serve?

The Surf’s Up Cake comes in three double-height sizes:

  • 6-inch (serves around 15 people)

  • 8-inch (serves around 30 people)

  • 10-inch (serves around 50 people)

The tall design creates a dramatic effect and ensures generous portions.

What flavours can I choose for the Surf’s Up Cake?

Flavour options include:

  • Chocolate

  • Vanilla

  • Red velvet

  • Marble

All cakes are layered with smooth vanilla buttercream unless another filling is requested.

How much notice is required to order the Surf’s Up Cake?

At least 48 hours’ notice is required. For summer parties and peak weekends, ordering earlier is recommended to secure your booking.

Can the Surf’s Up Cake be customised?

Yes. Surfboard colours can be changed, shells and patterns can be customised, and a name or age topper can be added. Small details can easily be tailored to fit your theme.

Where can I get a Surf’s Up Cake in Sydney?

When ordering a Surf’s Up Cake from The Cupcake Factory, delivery is available across Sydney, or it can be collected from:

  • Unit 6, 43 Herbert Street, Artarmon NSW 2064

The cake is boxed securely. Like all tall cakes, it should be transported on a flat surface and kept cool.

How should the Surf’s Up Cake be stored before serving?

Keep the cake refrigerated overnight, then bring it to room temperature 3–4 hours before serving. This ensures soft buttercream and the best flavour. Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

Are the decorations on the Surf’s Up Cake edible?

Yes. The surfboards, shells, and sun are handmade from sugar paste and fondant. Only support dowels should be removed before serving.

What trends influence beach-themed cakes?

Beach cakes are trending towards realistic textures, ombré ocean blues, and edible “sand” bases. The Surf’s Up Cake reflects these trends, making it a stylish choice for modern celebrations.
